Route Description
This gravel route takes you from la Tranche sur Mer to the island of Île de Ré. Along the way you pass through the national parc du Marais poitevin, where you find a lot of agricultural activity and old canals. See if you can spot (and photograph!) the otters.
After this national park the route heads to the coast and takes a turn south. You will ride beautiful gravel beside the Atlantic coast. Enjoy the sight of traditional fishing cottages and WWII remnants while you head to la Rochelle.
At la Rochelle you ride the bridge to Île de Ré, where the route takes you on a trip around the island and finishes in la Flotte.
- Tip: The bakery (boulangerie) in Charron is a great stop for coffee, croissants, pain aux raisins and a water refill.
- Tip: Keep in mind that Île de Ré gets quite crowded with recreational bikers during summer holidays.
