Gravel Route

Dordogne gravel ride in the Perigord from Montignac Lascaux to les Eyzies (plugging punctures)

75 km 1310 m Medium

Route Description

The Perigord Noir is a beautiful area for gravel riding within the French department of the Dordogne. This gravel route goes from Montignac Lascaux to Les Eyzies via some of the most beautiful white gravel roads. I visited the area before on holidays and remembered some of the best gravel patches from previous rides and connected them.

This is a one way from A to B route that you can ride both ways. Since it is already 75km long you may need to make adjustments to make it a closed loop to your local (holiday) address. There are plenty of opportunities to do so. If you do, try to keep the Chemin des Pleniers in the route, since this is truly a highlight patch of gravel in the area.

As you may see in the video, the gravel here sometimes bites. I had to manage several punctures during this gravel ride. Be sure to pack the proper repair kit to plug and inflate your tires. Tubeless and good sealant will pay off.

The route starts in Montignac Lascaux which is very vibrant and known for the historic caves. From here the route goes to Saint Amand-de-Coly, which is beautiful to have a quick look around. After which we go south, crossing the Vezere river at Thonac. The route stays away from the busy roads in the area and follows many paved and unpaved chemins. After passing Fleurac and Rouffignac the route heads back south to les Eyzies which is a nice and lively tourist place for French summer holidays.

  • Tip: Pack some extra tubeless tires, sealant, plugs and CO2 cartridges for punctures. Or inner tubes if that’s your tire setup.
  • Tip: Camping Le Pech Charmant treated us very well during the summer holidays of 2023
