Gravel Route

Breda WOll themed gravel ride south to Vloeiweide and Strijbeekse Heide

Route Description

A smooth gravel ride south of Breda connecting gravel trails from the Vloeiweide WOll memorial site to the Bisam stelle radar station at Strijbeekse Heide. From Kamu in Breda this route heads south to hit quick dirt roads via Ruitersbossedijk and Trippelenberg forest. From here it’s only a short stretch of pedaling to cross over towards Vloeiweide.

At the Vloeiweide the route takes a familiar loop past the memorial site and then rides on towards the Krabbenbosschen for a quick follow up of gravel patches and forest tracks. This is a really memorable and beautiful offroad part of the route. After this it takes a few kilometers of paved roads to cross the highway flyover between Breda and Antwerp.

After this flyover from Galder and Meersel-Dreef onwards there is another section of dirt- and gravel roads quickly following each other. At the end of the unpaved section in the Strijbeekse Heide you have the option to take a turn toward the old German WOll radar station “Bisam Stelle”. Not a lot of the station remains, but there are some concrete pillars to have a look at and a monument to what once was there.

When leaving the Strijkbeekse Heide you’re on the home stretch. The final part of the route takes you to the valley of the river Mark. We pass the Klokkenberg and edge of the famous Breda Mastbos forest before riding back into town where the route is now drawn to finish at Kamu coffee and bikes

  • Tip: The route starts and ends at Kamu bikes & coffee, which is a great cycling inspired place to fill-up or rest-up.
  • Tip: There are WOll sights along this route that are worth noticing stopping for.
  • Tip: At the end of summer or early autumn the fields of heath at “Strijbeekse Heide” are beautiful to see.

Since buying my first gravel bike in 2019 cycling has never been the same for me. The gravel bike quickly became my favorite bike that pushed my MTB and race bikes one place further back in the pecking order. I love how the gravel bike gives me the drive to explore. To set out for discovery of new routes and gravel roads, both in my backyard around Breda in the Netherlands and when traveling abroad with the family. Since that day in 2020 my time on bike and annual kilometers increased dramatically. Up to a point where I participated in my first ultra endurance events in 2025 where I finished FlatLands 300 and the Bright Midnight.
