This gravel ride starts right along the canal, where you’ll find an easy and quiet place to park before rolling out. From the first kilometers, the route takes you past open agricultural land on the way towards Loon and the Loonse and Drunense Duinen. It’s a nice warm-up section, with a mix of unpaved roads and some beautiful gravel stretches that make this area such a fun place to ride.
As the route unfolds, you’ll pick up some lovely paths near the forest, where the riding becomes more varied and the surroundings feel more natural and remote. Once you reach the Loonse and Drunense Dunes, you’ll find yourself on a cycle path that leads you along and through the dunes. It’s a special section with a completely different landscape and one of the highlights of this ride.
One important thing to keep in mind in this area: if you decide to change or extend the route, always pay close attention to the signs showing whether cycling is allowed. Also some of the MTB trails require a valid permit sticker/ticket, so make sure you only ride where permitted.
Towards the end of the ride, the route brings you back to the canal in Waalwijk. From there, you follow the water again, cruising back in the direction of Drunen and Cromvoirt. It’s a calm and scenic finale to a route that combines open farmland, forest paths, and the unique scenery of the dunes.
Since I moved to near "de Loonse en Drunense Duinen" national park, I've been considering buying a mountain bike. Then a friend came over for a visit with a gravel bike. That's when I knew this was the bike I'd have the most fun with. I love exploring, and on my gravel bike, I search for the best trails and the most beautiful places to enjoy.
